Charity promotion: Sam’s Tours Palau conducts mega lottery at boot show in Germany

In order to celebrate their 30th anniversary, Sam’s Tours asked us to come up with „a big bang“ for the boot show 2016 in Duesseldorf, Germany. After numerous brain storming sessions, discussions and talks back and forth to Palau, we came up with the idea to conduct a mega lottery at the stand. The aim was to tie the shark protection Palau and its dive centres are so proud of to a charitable cause while generating at the same time fun and excitement for the visitors of the booth. We decided to offer the proceeds from the lottery to Shark Angels, „an environmental nonprofit organization committed to changing the future of sharks by turning fear into fascination and passion into action. We empower the creation of grassroots campaigns that make a global impact.“

A lot of work was ahead of us! But with a great team effort between the team of Sam’s Tours and the team of Tourism Unlimited, we managed to get great sponsors behind the idea:

  • Several hotels in Palau sponsored free nights, Sam’s Tours added free dives. So we could give away 3 vouchers for each 7 nights at a hotel/resort and 5 days of diving with Sam’s Tours
  • 4 regulators from Scubapro
  • 2 dive computers from Sealife
  • Indyplush sent some really cute plush toys which certainly drew the youngsters to the booth
  • Renowned artists and photographers, e.g. Pascal Lecocq, Greg Lecoeur and Tobias Friedrich donated some of their best paintings and photographies
  • Neptunic and Shark Angels gave us cool T-Shirts and hoodies
  • Several media companies sponsored free subscriptions to their dive magazines
  • … and so many more

In total, we had 600 prizes worth nearly 25.000 €!

The mechanism: In order to generate the desired minimum amount for the charity, we decided to mix blanks with winning numbers while ensuring a winning chance of 1:5. In the nine days of the show, we sold all 2.500 tickets available and along with some extra donations, were able to hand over a check of 5.841,94 € to Shark Angels.
